Andrew Carnegie is an industrialist and a philanthropist. He was the one who took charge of the development of the steel industry in America. He was one of the richest and dominant philanthropists of his time. He also established the Carnegie Corporation in New York in 1911.

Like everyone else, despite being the richest in the British Empire, Andrew fell in love with a woman.

At 45, Andrew Carnegie met a lovely lady named Louise Whitfield. Louise was only 23 years old and the daughter of a businessman. By that time, Andrew was also known to be the most famous and most prosperous eligible male. With his growing steel companies, Andrew’s net worth blows up to 20 million US dollars in their time.

Andrew and Louise became fond of each other and considered themselves as friends. Sooner, they felt the sparks between them and romance arouse with the two. At the age of 30, Louise married his husband Andrew, who was 45 years old. Louise and Andrew’s marriage was held at Louise’s home located in New York City on April 22, 1887. Their wedding was not that grand. The ceremony only included their family and 30 of their friends. Louise also chose to wear a wedding dress made in a traveling suit.

The reason why Andrew became involved in a late marriage is that he dedicated his younger years to the care of his mother.

After their wedding, Andrew gifted his wife Louise a home located at 5 West 51st street. Andrew also gave her a revenue amounting to 20,000 US dollars as part of his wedding gift to his wife.

Louise agreed to renounce and waive all the rights and entitlement in Andrew’s properties and money through a prenuptial contract. However, Andrew still gave Louise an investment of 20,000 US Dollars. Later on, Louise became a prominent representative in the Carnegie Corporation.

With their 32 years of marriage, Andrew and Louise bear only one child. Their only child was named Margaret Carnegie- Miller. On March 30, 1897, in the Manhattan, New York City. She sooner became the successor of Carnegie’s properties and fortunes. Margaret is one of the administrators of her father’s corporation.

The success of Andrew Carnegie became more prosperous when she married his wife, Louise. They became strong partners that helped different organizations in their country.

Life can be short. On August 11, 1919, Andrew Carnegie died in Lenox, Massachusetts, due to the cause of bronchial pneumonia. Almost all his fortunes were donated and given to different foundations and charities. His remains were buried at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in New York.

Following the death of Andrew in 1919, Louise never failed to live up to his husband’s support to its charities and foundations. Louise pursues and keeps donating to different organizations like American Red Cross and St. John the Divine Cathedral. She also presented to the victims of World War II and gave them 100,000 US Dollars as a relief fund.

However, Louise Carnegie’s life ended on June 24, 1946. Like her husband, her remains were also buried at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in New York.

By that time, their only child Margaret Carnegie Miller was the only successor and heiress of the Carnegie’s Corporation and their fortunes. Margaret married Roswell Miller Jr. on April 22, 1919, a couple of months after her father, Andrew Carnegie, died. Margaret and Roswell bear four children named Louise, Roswell III, Barbara, and Margaret in their entire marriage. However, their marriage was not successful, and they ended up in a divorce in 1953. Due to their divorce of her husband Roswell, Margaret has lost her summer beach house in Atlantic Beach.

At the age of 93, Margaret Carnegie Miller, the successor, the heiress, and the only child of Louise and Andrew Carnegie died at Fairfield, Connecticut, her home on April 11, 1990.

Margaret Carnegie Miller was honored as the lifetime trustee of the Carnegie Corporation.
